Thanksgiving & Updates
1. Mission Team from Canada – Praise the Lord, by His grace, everything went well. I enjoyed being part of a team, helping to organize and run an English Camp at Sankamphaeng, where Mem and Orp, both students at CTS (Chiangmai Theological Seminary) are starting a new church plant. The team also came to help teach English at the schools I was already teaching in, and the team spent most of their time at CMU (Chiang Mai University), where we went tracting, taught English, had a dinner party and an outing where we went bamboo rafting. It was great to see the Canadian team making friends with the Thai students. We are also beginning to see God work, and we are really encouraged by the number of new students we see at our Friday night meetings. We’re praying that God will continue to work the hearts of these students, that they will one day come to Christ.
2. Teaching – We’re thankful for all the classes that we have right now – 5 classes of P5s, 1 class of P6, 3 classes of Sec1 and 1 class of Sec2 – that’s 10 classes altogether! We teach every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Pray that His strength will sustain us (Caroline & I)!
3. OMF Conference – All the missionaries in the Thailand field came together at a resort in Saraburi, where we spent much time catching up with old friends, meeting new ones, worshipping the Lord, praying for various missionaries and ministries, playing games, and learning more about indigenous biblical church planting movements. I was really thankful to meet (nearly) all the missionaries in the Thai field, and to spend time with friends.
4. Sunday School – Praise the Lord! More children are coming regularly to learn about the Almighty God! Just yesterday, we had 28 children (8 were newcomers!), and we’re praying for more!
Prayer Requests
1. His strength - It’s been a busy month in June, with camps, outings, mission team, conference and teaching English in schools, which means a lot of planning and traveling. I think I’m beginning to feel the effects of it, not just physically, but more so spiritually. Pray for His protection, and for discipline on my part, to walk even more closely with Him.
2. Youths in Hang Dong – We are really finding it difficult to get the Youth Club going and it seemed almost impossible to have an evangelistic camp at the end of July. But God is good! A P.E. teacher at Grace International School wants to run an evangelistic sports outreach programme for the Thai youths in the Hang Dong area, so we’ve partnered to have a Sports Camp on 14th and 15th July. Pray that many youths will come and not just have a good time, but also hear the gospel. Pray also that God will grant us wisdom & creativity to know how to carry out the follow-up activities with these youths, especially those who are interested to know more about Jesus. Every week, we come in contact with about 250 students (10 – 14 yr-olds) through teaching English in the 2 schools. Pray that we’ll have many more opportunities to reach out to them through various evangelistic activities/camps.
3. Grace Fellowship & English Classes at CMU – This term has been very exciting since we started it with a bang (the Canadian team came so we had a party, outing…). Even our English classes have been more encouraging. We have 8 students (Pit, Bier, Noon, Fang, Taew, Nerng, Namsom, Mot – all girls) and we’re using Bible stories to teach English. We were surprised when we discovered that 3 of the girls are already Christians! Pray for the other 5 girls, that God will speak to them through those stories. There has been quite a number of newcomers to our Friday night meetings. Pray that we will be able to build good relationships with these students. There is a Korean mission team coming and there will be a camp on 13 -15 July. Pray that God will prepare the hearts of the students who will hear the gospel.
4. Safety – We need to travel quite a lot because we go to CMU (Chiang Mai University – quite far away from where we live) three times a week. I’m thankful that travelling has been made more convenient since I bought a motorcycle. However, it’s the rainy season so it rains quite often, so do continue to pray for our safety, especially when we have to drive in the rain.
5. Hang Dong Grace Church – Pray for the team (Tharawat & wife Jimmy, Chumseng & Wanapha, Caroline, Toye & I), that we will work well together. The Kim family (OMF missionaries) who started the church has left for US for their home assignment. Pray especially for Tharawat who has fully taken over the leadership of the church and has to cope with more responsibilities.
